Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Go)
We are a well-funded Berlin climate-tech scale-up turning high-frequency wind turbine data into live, clean energy delivery for enterprise customers. You will design and scale the distributed backend systems connecting physical wind farms directly to grid markets and end consumers.
Overview
Why this role matters
Following our recent venture funding, we are expanding our core energy platform to handle massive scale as we double down on decarbonizing commercial power. Behind every turbine lies massive volumes of SCADA readings, volatile spot market pricing, and continuous customer consumption that must be ingested and matched in real time. Without robust, high-throughput backend infrastructure, bridging physical renewable generation with modern grid demand is impossible.
Responsibilities
What you'll do
You will own the architecture, development, and reliability of our high-scale energy ingestion and matching engines.
- Build high-throughput data pipelines in Python and Go to ingest real-time SCADA telemetry, 15-minute metering intervals, and weather forecasts.
- Architect scalable time-series data storage and query layers using PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB.
- Develop and maintain low-latency REST and gRPC APIs powering customer portals, partner integrations, and internal trading systems.
- Integrate external market data feeds, including EPEX Spot prices and transmission grid operator signals.
- Implement real-time matching algorithms that pair customer consumption with wind power generation and track guarantees of origin.
- Drive observability, automated testing, and shared on-call reliability practices while mentoring growing engineering team members.
Candidate profile
Who this is a fit for
- 6+ years building distributed backend services using production Python and Go.
- Deep mastery of PostgreSQL schema design, optimization, and time-series data handling.
- Proven background implementing event-driven streaming architectures with Kafka or NATS.
- Hands-on experience deploying containerized services with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and cloud infrastructure.
- Rigorous testing mindset across unit, integration, and contract test suites.
- Native-level C2 fluency in both German and English with valid German work authorization.
Culture
What it's like to work here
We operate with a flat organizational structure and high autonomy, where engineers have direct ownership over architectural decisions. The team works fully on-site together in Berlin, kicking off each morning with a 10:00 AM standup. Transparency and celebration of shipping are central to our rhythm: every Friday, each team member writes and publishes a short blog post detailing what they built and delivered that week. People thrive here who are self-directed, communicate openly in person, and take pride in continuous delivery.
What you get
The offer
- Direct architectural ownership with zero bureaucratic red tape in a flat engineering team.
- A tight-knit, collaborative on-site culture in Berlin-Mitte with high-trust engineering practices.
- Weekly public visibility into your impact through our team-wide Friday shipping blogs.
- Opportunity to shape architectural standards as our technical organization scales significantly.

A quick note
This probably isn't for you if:
- You prefer working remotely or in a hybrid model rather than fully on-site in Berlin-Mitte.
- You are uncomfortable writing and reviewing production code in both Python and Go.
- You require visa sponsorship to work legally in Germany.
