Backend Software Engineer (Rust)
We are a Berlin-based industrial tech scale-up building production scheduling software for manufacturing environments, giving you the direct ownership to turn customer requirements into robust, real-world Rust services.
Overview
Why this role matters
As our production scheduling platform moves into active customer deployments and complex industrial integrations, our backend needs to expand rapidly to handle production workloads. You will be instrumental in scaling our core services and ensuring our software runs reliably in demanding customer infrastructure.
Responsibilities
What you'll do
You will own the backend services and integration pipelines that power our production scheduling platform across customer deployments.
- Build, maintain, and scale production-ready backend features and APIs in Rust.
- Implement reliable customer integrations and complex data mapping workflows.
- Collaborate closely with backend and ML teams to run workloads smoothly in production.
- Debug, test, and support robust deployments on our Kubernetes infrastructure.
- Turn bespoke customer and product requirements into clean, maintainable architecture.
The first 90 days
What success looks like
Month 1
Get fully up to speed with our backend codebase and integrate into our daily standups and planning workflows.
Month 2–3
Take independent ownership of production backend features and collaborate directly on active customer integration pipelines.
By end of Q1
Operate as a core contributor reliably shipping backend integrations and production features across customer environments.
Candidate profile
Who this is a fit for
- Practical experience building applications with Rust across professional, academic, or personal projects.
- High autonomy to manage your own tasks, time, and project priorities independently.
- Strong English communication skills for close technical collaboration.
- Eagerness to dive into technical problems and learn continuously on the fly.
Culture
What it's like to work here
Flat hierarchy with low formal process and high autonomy. Team rituals center around a short daily standup and a weekly engineering planning sync, with spontaneous ad-hoc collaboration whenever questions arise. Thrives on self-direction, rapid learning on the fly, and tackling novel production challenges without rigid bureaucracy.
What you get
The offer
- High technical autonomy in a flat hierarchy with minimal formal bureaucracy.
- Direct impact shipping code to real-world industrial production environments.
- Collaborative culture with light rituals like daily standups and weekly engineering syncs.
- Broad technical scope spanning backend architecture, ML workflows, and deployment infrastructure.

A quick note
This probably isn't for you if:
- You rely on rigid corporate structures, heavy top-down processes, and micromanaged roadmaps.
- You prefer purely theoretical tasks over hands-on debugging, testing, and production deployments.
- You are uncomfortable operating in an evolving environment where responsibilities grow dynamically.
